Daniel couldn’t wait to get the hell out of here.

“I’ll see you at the house,” Daniel murmured to his parents. He patted his father on the back. “I’ve got to take care of some neglected business, but I’ll be over before I return toCleveland.”

Later, when the townsfolk had left and he could be alone, Daniel would return to his sister’s grave to say goodbye.
